What is Tennis Elbow?
Tennis elbow (previously known as lateral epicondylitis) is now known as epicondylalgia and produces:
-
Pain on the outside of the elbow.
-
Pain on lifting and twisting movements.
-
Pain may also occur at night when the arm is at rest.
-
Pain gripping.

On the outside of the elbow joint is an area where lots of different tendons from the forearm insert onto the same area of bone. In cases of tennis elbow this "common insertion point" becomes very painful. It's not just tennis players that experience tennis elbow. It can be caused by trauma such as a fall or impact to the area, but is more commonly caused by overuse or repetitive movements such as using hand tools, free weights or racquet sports like tennis or can even be triggered by some unaccustomed one off event - such as moving house or clearing out a garden. We constantly use our elbow in everyday movements making it quite tricky to rest. Untreated tennis elbow can last weeks, months or longer.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY
JOHN MCDONAGH
I visited Physio Rooms Cork after a long period of time (6 months +) suffering from Tennis Elbow.
Time and rest was not healing the issue and it was actually getting worse.
James was super professional and knowledgeable and after our first consultation was able to tailor a treatment program and individual exercise program to treat my injury.
After two weeks I saw a large improvement and the pain had greatly reduced.
In total I've had six treatment sessions and can say that my pain has almost completely disappeared. I will continue with the exercise plans provided on the advice of James but I'm confident that the injury is well and truly under control now.
I would strongly recommend Physio Rooms Cork to anybody with a similar injury.
BRENDAN MCLAUGHLIN
I've had an issue with tennis elbow on both of my elbows for the past 2 years and was having cortisone injections as a quick fix solution. I was a bit dubious about having physiotherapy done (how wrong was i) I went to James for an initial consultation and he reassured me that he could help me, so I signed up to his tennis elbow programme and after 6 sessions on the treatment table and a programme he gave me to do at home daily from an app on my phone and I can now say that after these few months I was pain free (totally surprised as I thought I'd be having injections every 6 months for the rest of my days) in a nut-shell James knows his stuff, very professional and informative. Highly recommended from someone who initially thought physiotherapy wouldn't work, you won't regret. Nice one buddy.
WILLY MCLAUGHLIN
I have been suffering from tennis elbow for over 18 months in both elbows. I was getting steroid injections from my doctor that would get rid of the pain but after a few months the pain would always come back so I taught I would try physio as I dont know any physio personally I just put physio near me into my phone search and physio rooms in Ballinlough came up .I made a appointment and met James for the first time .I told him all about my injured elbows and how much pain I was in ,the physio I wont lie was sore and sometimes eye watering, James put me on a exercise programme over the next few months, the results have been very rewarding, I have been pain free in both elbows and I couldn't be happier with James magic hands and the exercise programme that I put 100% into ,i say it again i am pain free .I couldn't recommend James highly enough he's a top physio and a top bloke
